Semiparametric Bayesian models for human brain mapping

چکیده
Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) has led to enormous progress in human brain mapping. Adequate analysis of the massive spatiotemporal data sets generated by this imaging technique, combining parametric and non-parametric components, imposes challenging problems in statistical modelling. Complex hierarchical Bayesian models in combination with computer-intensive Markov chain Monte Carlo inference are promising tools. The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, it provides a review of general semiparametric Bayesian models for the analysis of fMRI data. Most approaches focus on important but separate temporal or spatial aspects of the overall problem, or they proceed by stepwise procedures. Therefore, as a second aim, we suggest a complete spatiotemporal model for analysing fMRI data within a unied semiparametric Bayesian framework. An application to data from a visual stimulation experiment illustrates our approach and demonstrates its computational feasibility.

Bayesian Elastic-Net and Fused Lasso for Semiparametric Structural Equation Models
SUMMARY: Structural equation models are well-developed statistical tools for multivariate data with latent variables. Recently, much attention has been given to developing structural equation models that account for nonlinear relationships between the endogenous latent variables, the covariates, and the exogenous latent variables. [Guo et al. (2012)], developed a semiparametric structural equat...
متن کاملBayesian semiparametric multi-state models
Multi-state models provide a unified framework for the description of the evolution of discrete phenomena in continuous time. One particular example are Markov processes which can be characterised by a set of time-constant transition intensities between the states. In this paper, we will extend such parametric approaches to semiparametric models with flexible transition intensities based on Bay...
متن کاملA Semiparametric Approach to Mixed Outcome Latent Variable Models: Estimating the Association between Cognition and Regional Brain Volumes
Multivariate data that combine binary, categorical, count and continuous outcomes are common in the social and health sciences. Often, mixed outcome variables together are considered to be tapping a particular latent construct. A common research question then focuses on estimation of the relationship between a latent construct and a scientifically important covariate of interest. A motivating e...
متن کاملBayesian spatiotemporal inference in functional magnetic resonance imaging.
Mapping of the human brain by means of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is an emerging field in cognitive and clinical neuroscience. Current techniques to detect activated areas of the brain mostly proceed in two steps. First, conventional methods of correlation, regression, and time series analysis are used to assess activation by a separate, pixelwise comparison of the fMRI signal...
متن کاملComparison of two QTL mapping approaches based on Bayesian inference using high-dense SNPs markers
To compare different QTL mapping methods, a population with genotypic and phenotypic data was simulated. In Bayesian approach, all information of markers can be used along with combination of distributions of SNP markers. It is assumed that most of the markers (95%) have minor effects and a few numbers of markers (5%) exert major effects. The simulated population included a basic population of ...
